To fulfill the requirements of a homework assignment in my New Media class, I have chosen Neil Gaiman's Facebook page to analyze. The purpose of this assignment is to choose a famous writer and critique their page, so that we aspiring writers can learn more from those who have come before us to pave the way in the world of social media.
I have visited a number of popular writers' Facebook pages for this assignment in order to get a good gage as to what I should look for in my critique of Gaiman's page. I will not divulge the names of those pages I visited, but I will say that Gaiman's page was far superior to the other ones that I visited.
Similar to his website, Gaiman's Facebook page is quite entertaining and has a little bit of everything for everyone. Perhaps the most impressive feature to this page is Gaiman's sheer interaction with his fans and his capabilities to be "social."
Gaiman's ability to interact on a social media platform while maintaining his extraordinarily busy work schedule is something that is unparalleled in the literary community. Gaiman's literary resume is one of the most diverse and impressive collections of novels, short stories, poems, comics and other forms of writing that he has distributed for the world to enjoy.
Gaiman is great at both communicating with his fans and promoting other artists that interest him. His ability to multitask and work on many different projects at once gives his fans a diverse and deep pool of writings to choose from. My only question for Neil is: where the hell do you find the time?
