My Blink 182 "All The Small Things" Philosophy on Life

At the risk of sounding cliché, I have come to the conclusion that if you are happy with the little things in life, then you live a happy life.  Why stress about tomorrow when today is so fucking beautiful outside? Stop and smell the roses, as they say, and be happy that you are alive.  Be happy that you can walk your dog down the streets on a summer's day.  Be happy that you can sit so leisurely on your couch and experience recreational fun on the world wide web. I promise you, some are not so fortunate in this world.  I hope you are satisfied with the little things in your life, for I have found that they are the most important things to be satisfied with in order to be happy.  Because happiness; after all, should be what we all stride for.  Not money.  Not fame.  Just pure, unadulterated happiness for being alive today.

My Introduction To The World Wide Blogging Community

Hello world,

I am new this "blogging" game, so be kind.

Here is a little background information:

My name is Colby Millett and I live in Kittery, Maine.  I am about to graduate with a BA in Creative Writing at Southern New Hampshire University.  I have previously lived in Boston and attended Berklee College of Music for Songwriting.

I am a writer and a lover of literature, among other things.  I have written a number of short stories, poems and songs.  Currently I am working on my first novel about a young man struggling with his sexual identity in a small town in Maine.  I have no idea when I will finish it, but I am hoping to be done my first draft by this summer.

I have a golden retriever, named Dylan, who is the coolest dog I have ever met.  I named him after Bob Dylan, and he has certainly lived up to coolness of that name.  He is currently sitting at my feet begging to go outside, so unfortunately I must make this brief.  To hold you over, I will give you a little taste of my writing.

The Hidden Vale

The trees sway back and forth with the breeze
As the wind gently kisses the branches and leaves
The sun shines down upon the trail
A guiding light to lead to the hidden vale

For what is life, if it is not an adventure of sorts
An endless road towards heavenly shores
Each trail we take, leads to the same place
But its the trail we take that determines the pace

I have lived my life, one step at a time
Going from trail to trail, never walking the same line
I do not want to be known as the man that just lived
I want to be known as the man that had a story to give

Life is short, I think all will agree
You can live your whole life, and never truly see
That once it’s all over, you will never get it back
So, why wish it all away when you can walk slowly down it’s path?

So, next time you find yourself walking the woods
Do not hesitate on what path is good
Just follow your heart and do not second guess
Take one step forward, then let your feet do the rest
